Jenerik (Green Sour Plums)
Jenerik, also spelled janerik (gojeh sabz in Farsi, can erik in Turkish), are small green plums picked immature, while they are still crunchy and sour. Eaten out of hand with salt, sliced onto mezze plates, pickled, or cooked into stews, they are a spring fixture for the Armenian, Persian, Turkish and Arab kitchens of Los Angeles. In season from April into June from California growers, packed in 10 lb boxes.
